Windswept

Windswept Brewery have been brewing since 2012 in Lossiemouth, Scotland. The brewery was created by two Royal Air Force pilots, who created the name Windswept to reflect the windswept beaches along moray coast and capture the sense of adventure that there is found there in the Scottish Highlands.

Description

This pale ale from windswept is refreshing and light with citrus notes and a crisp bitter finish. This is bottle conditioned meaning it contains live yeast and is considered a session ale.

First Impressions - Nose and Appearance

Blonde is a vibrant orange colour, with a peachy tone to it. The bouquet gives off citrus notes of lemon and grapefruit, coming from the hops which gives it a lovely freshness, perfect for the summer months. The ale has a cloudy look it which is caused by yeast fermentation process, as well as the use of wheat. The head on this is good quality and retains itself, with beer itself showing nice carbonation.

Taste:

This This beer is very nice on the palette, with some lovely flavours running through it, due to the variety of hops used like admiral, cascade, citra, columbus and williamette. The different malts used in this are planet pale, crystal malts and also wheat. This combination gives off notes of grapefruit and hints of peach and other tropical fruit flavours like passion fruit. The columbus hops gives this beer its bitterness, which for me is just the right amount, lingering slightly but keeping it a very enjoyable session beer which you can go back for more of quite easily. The citrus flavours keep this fresh and light, with a great balance between light and punchy for a session pale ale.

Body:

The body of this one is quite light, with a crisp and refreshing finish. It is light however manages to have a slight creamyness to it, perhaps coming from the wheat used in the brew. It has decent carbonation but not too gassy, with a nice head to it, resulting in a top notch beverage.

Overall

SCORE: 4.25/5

Overall I really like this beer and I would definitely recommend you try it for yourself! It's light, crisp and a real session ale, leaving you looking for more. Get stuck in, you wont regret it!
