Loch Ness Brewery was creates a variety of different brews for all tastes, originally brewing across from Loch Ness itself. Now they are in partnership with Cairngorm brewery and The Cobbs Group and produce some brilliant stuff.

First Impressions - Nose and Appearance

The stout gives a rich cocoa aroma with strong coffee notes. There is also a sweetness that comes through from the coffee but also from sweet black cherry notes. There is a hint of burnt, roasted smells which come from the roasted malts. There is decent head left on it in terms of a stout and the carbonation levels are surprisingly high, which too enhances the aroma.

Taste:

The chocolaty add depth to this lager that you may get from an ale or a stout, This stout is made with roasted and chocolatey barley however it is not bitter in the slightest. The profile of this is filled with sweet chocolate and espresso coffee. The rich black cherry flavour which flows through this highland water stout gives it almost a black forest gateaux feel to it which is very nice on the palate.

The aftertaste is pleasant and lingers nicely, leaving you with a taste for another mouthful

Body:

The mouthfeel of this stout is creamy with moderate heaviness to it. Due to its high carbonation it is quite bubbly so it feels quite light for a stout. The head retains itself and is lovely and creamy.

Overall

SCORE: 4.5/5

Overall, I very much enjoyed this stout and would recommend it to anyone. It could be classed as more of a winter drink, to be enjoyed next to a fire however brilliant at any time. At 4.4% this isn't too strong but just right. I feel this would go very well with cheese or perhaps red meat. A brilliant stout!
